CC8520 PAEN is always low when working with CC2590

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2591, CC8520, CC2590

Hi team,

My customer is using CC8520+CC2590, but we are not able to make CC2590 work. We have been experiencing problem like in following link except that we are using CC2590 rather than CC2591.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/f/382/t/312614

I have set range extender to CC2590 HGM, but when the system is working, the EN signal of CC2590 is always 1 (2.4V) but PAEN is always 0V. I totally have no idea about why this could happen.

Could you please help on it?

The schematic near CC2590 is as following:

Thank you very much!

Best regards,

Richard

  • Hi Richard,
It sounds like the system is running in RX continously. Have you double checked the datasheet specifications for CC8520 and CC2590 in terms of component values and routing?

  • Hi Joakim,

    Thanks for your reply.

Are you referring to the high/low level voltage and source/sink capability? According to my understanding, both devices can be connected directly without pull-up or pull-down. Please refer to following circuit design of the two boards, we have also tried to remove the two pull-down resistors on PAEN signal but it didn't help.

    Best regards,

    Richard

  • Hi Richard,
The schematic look ok. I assume the quality of PCB design is ok as well.

Do you measure with an oscilloscope on the EN and PAEN, so that you know for a fact that the levels are constant? Are you sure that the software is running as expected?

    Best Regards
    Joakim
  • Hi Joakim,

Thanks for your help! After we carefully checked the board, we found that the power supply to CC8520 had some problems due to poor soldering and the PAEN pin would be stuck on low. We fixed the board and now the system is working alright.

    Thanks!

    Best regards,
    Richard
