I know the PAN1720 is not a TI product but does have a CC2540 in it.
I have a customer currently placing the PAN1720 on his PCB. He's looking to get the best range for his module is there an app note that can talk about placement - should it be on the corner of the PCB or should it be in the middle of the PCB. Again, I know the module has an internal antenna and it's not a TI product but maybe someone can recommend a good app note or placmenet.
Place the PAN1720 at the corner of the board and ensure that there is no ground plane under it, especailly near the antenna side of the PAN1720.
