SmartRF05EB USB controller / Bootloader failure

Hello,

i'm working on a bluetooth low energy project, using two SmartRF05EB boards in advertising mode, and capturing RSSI values using an Nexus 7 device. I'm using USB to power the boards. One of the peripherals stopped working, with USB LED D6 off all time. I tested the board using oscilloscope, it has power. LED1 is on.

By referring to the User manual, when D6 is off, it is either the board is not getting power, or the software for the USB controller is corrupt. I cannot connect to any computer over USB. Any idea how to update the firmware, or install a new version of the USB controller software ?

Thanks,

Robert

  • Hi Robert,

Have you tried the "forced recovery mode", as described in chapter 10.1 of the SmartRF05EB User's Guide? Chapter 10.2 describes briefly how you can program the USB controller on the EB using either another SmartRF05EB or a CC Debugger. The recovery process is actually very similar to the recovery process for the CC Debugger. It is better explained in the CC Debugger's User's Guide (www.ti.com/lit/swru197). I suggest you follow the recovery steps outlined there, obviously using the EB bootloader and firmware instead of the debugger bootloader and firmware.
