SmartRF06 + CC2650 and external debugger

Can I use an external debugger (a Segger JLINK ARM in fact) with the SmartRF06 to debug a CC2650 board? I know I can go the other way and use the onboard XDS100 to debug an external board, but I want to plug an external Segger into the cortex ARM 10-pin header and use that instead of the XDS100. Reason, XDS is windows and linux, I'm on OSX, I have a JLink ARM which works on OSX, I believe it supports the CC2650, so I was going to try that out.

If so - what jumpers do I have to pull? I assume I disconnect the jumpers from the XDS bypass header, but will that still leave the debug header connected to the CC2560 daughter board or disconnect it? I can't find a circuit diagram for the SmartRF06 so I can't tell which side of the whole thing the bypass header is.

Hi Roland,

This is explained in the SmartRF06EB user guide chapter 7: www.ti.com/lit/pdf/swru321 . The user guide also includes the schematic for the board.

The short story is that you only need to remove the XDS bypass headers.

Missed both those things - how embarrassing. Thanks for that, when the board shows up I'll see if I can get it working. Probably more questions coming later.

Fredrik ,when i removed the Xds bypass headers (assuming only the 3rd set from top needs to be removed) and tried flashing the code to a sensor tag connected through the 10 pin connector ,im getting this error as soon as i change the debugger from xds 100 v3 to j link. I am unable to download it. What can be done ??

I am not sure what you mean by "third set from the top"? All the XDS100v3 bypass jumpers must be removed.

I tried doing that itself initially(As its clearly mentioned in the middle of the doc) ,but then checking the image provided with the document , i assumed it might be just the third set .Anyhow,i tried with both and couldnt get it running properly.I was using JLINK PRO P.S.it was the latest version .
