Unable to connect CC2650 Sensor Tag via XDS110

Hi,

My sensor tag is not detecting via the XDS110. Initially I tried flashing the sensor tag code using CCS, and this error showed up.

The XDS110 debug probe is showing in Project->Properties->Connection.

Thinking that this could be a problem with the XDS110 debugger I tried to update the firmware using the xdsdfu tool located in C:\ti\ccsv6\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds110 , and tried running the command using xdsdfu -e, to see the connected XDS110 device,

But the command prompt shows no connected devices, but my device manager shows the connected devices as XDS110 Class Application/User uart COM6 and XDS110 Class Auxillary Data port COM5. It isn't showing up in the Smart RF Flash Programmer 2 too.(The RF Flash and CCS were not open at the same time)

It seems like my XDS110 is bricked, Could anyone from TI help me solve this problem.

Try to disconnect USB, remove & re-insert a fresh battery into the SensorTag, then re-attach USB to the Debugger DevPack. The battery can then be removed once the Debugger DevPack is powered up correctly.

Try to refer to processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Debug_DevPack_User_Guide and see if you can find some clues.

It didn't help.

But I've just solved the problem:

1) Download and install "XDS Emulation Software Package"
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS_Emulation_Software_Package
2) Disconnect the sensor tag from DevPack
3) Attach DevPack to USB
4) go to c:\ti\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds110 and open ReadMe.txt:

"Run the following two commands from this directory:

xdsdfu -m
xdsdfu -f firmware.bin -r

You may need to pause after the first command to give the OS time to
recognize that the XDS110 has reconfigured as a different USB device.

Once the second command completes, the firmware is updated, and the
debug probe should be ready to use."

Do it

5) Now CC2650 should be visible in Smart RF programmer

So, the problem was because of old DevPack firmware.

Note:

To be sure that everything goes right have a look at device manager after "xdsdfu -m".

You should see there installed "Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrade".

Otherwise additionaly install Stellaris drivers from the folder

c:\ti\ccs_base\emulation\drivers\stellaris\icdi

Yes, old FW version need to be upgraded to make it work on CCS. It's good to know you fix it now.

I have the same problem where my cc2650 is not listed. Where to run the following commands you said. I am not able to get

Run the following two commands from this directory:
xdsdfu -m xdsdfu -f firmware.bin -r

Where to run theses commands .

You have to run a dos command prompt and switch to "C:\ti\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds110". Then you can run "xdsdfu -m xdsdfu -f firmware.bin -r".

Do you have the folder "C:\ti\ccs_base\common\uscif\xds110" in your system?

yes I do . I did what was told it said updating firmware but still the same problem exist. I have no idea what to do.

Can you attach a snapshot of your Flash Programmer 2 and picture of your CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER with CC2650?

This is the think and my dev pack is 1.2.0 cc debud devpac. I also would lke to know during continusing advertising after changing the flag from limited to general would you have to press the button once to advertise it continuously or is there a possibility where u don't press the button at all ´where u disable the button

1. Do you run "xdsdfu -s xxxxxxxx -r"? I see your XDS110 ID is xxxxxxxx. You should use a number to replace it, for example, 12345678.
2. Can you show me how you connect CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER to your CC2650 Sensortag? Before you plug in usb cable to CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER, do you connect CC2650 SensorTag with battery?

3. Maybe you can start an event under specific condition to stop continuing advertising after changing the flag from limit to general.

Have you installed the latest "XDS Emulation Software Package"?

My DevPack Debugger was updated succesfully only with firmware.bin (size 60567 bytes, 24-Jul-2015) and xdsdfu.exe (size 121856 bytes, 24-Jul-2015).

The previous versions of firmware.bin and xdsdfu.exe did not work with my DevPack Debugger for some reason. Only the new.

Check your firmware.bin and xdsdfu.exe version.

1. You have to connect insert the battery before plugging USB cable into the dev pack.
2. You can run "xdsdfu -m" first then run "xdsdfu -s 12345678 -r" to write 12345678 as serial number to XDS110V3.

Try to run the following two commands to assign serial number to your XDS110V3

xdsdfu -m
xdsdfu -s xxxxxxxx -r

where xxxxxxxx is a serial number, any combination of letters and
numbers, from 1 to 8 characters in length.

HI,
I have the same problem, I did your trick, updating the firmware from 2.2.4.1 to 2.2.5.1 but nothing changed, BLE Device Monitor doesn,t communicate with Host on COM Port and SmartRF Flash Programmer doesn't recognize the CC2650 MCU.
what am I missing?

1. Do you set serial number to XDS110? If yes, What serial number do you set to your XDS110?

2. Before you connected CC2650STK to CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER, please remove battery from CC2650STK first. Make sure CC-DEVPACK-DEBUGGER connect to PC via USB cable and then connect it with CC2650STK.If you still don't make it, attach the Flash Programmer 2 snapshot to me.

3. Do you run BLE HostTest example on your CC2650STK? If not, BLE device monitor cannot recognize or detect it.

That worked for me too:

I am using MSP432 Launchpad.

This morning I found XDS110 in DFU mode which was indicated in Device Manager as Stellaris Debug probe (the two COM ports of XDS110 were not present in Device Manager). This meant I did not need the first command line. Flashing the new firmware reinstated the XDS110 com ports.

Hi Alex,

I tried to run the first command in command prompt but it says "The requested device was not found " .
Therefore in Device manager there is no "Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrade". Could you please suggest solution for this.

Hi Alex,

I am using cc2650lp(launch pad), facing same problem, tried to update F/W of XDS110

But command part is not working as you mentioned (getting error- device not found on the bus)

tried to install Stellaris drivers from mentioned directory but window 7 didn't allowed it, flashing previous driver is best suitable while updating driver from device manager.

Is there any other way to update F/W?
