I am developing firmware on cc2650 device. I am starting my project with SimpleBLEPeripheral project. I am now able to read sensor data from this project. My next goal is to send two bytes of data to a phone via advertising data field. Is there a specific function to do this? Basically I need to change the advertising data each advertising instance.

Any suggestions on how to achieve this functionality?

You can append those two bytes to advertData and use the following API to do this.

GAP_UpdateAdvertisingData( gapRole_TaskID,TRUE, B_MAX_ADV_LEN, advertData );

In the SimpleBLEPeripheral project what is the best place to do this update?

Can I do it in the GAPROLE_STARTED state? or GAPROLE_ADVERTISING state?

Hi,

Thanks for all of your help.

I am able to include the data I want in the advertising data field. Do I have any control over the advertising timing? I need to set the advertising timing so that the device advertises every 60s. I have tried to update the following parameter to 96000, which will set it to 60s. The GAP will go to the GAPROLE_ERROR state while the device is running.

#define DEFAULT_ADVERTISING_INTERVAL 16000 (10s)

Do I have to use the clock module to achieve this? Do you have any suggestions?

If I remember correctly, the max interval parameter is 65535 which is constrained by uint16.

Yeah so it make sense why I cant set it to 96000.

Is there a way around to achieve this functionality?

These are the max and min values used by the controller:

#define LL_ADV_CONN_INTERVAL_MIN 32 // 20ms in 625us
#define LL_ADV_CONN_INTERVAL_MAX 16384 // 10.24s in 625us
#define LL_ADV_NONCONN_INTERVAL_MIN 160 // 100ms in 625us
#define LL_ADV_NONCONN_INTERVAL_MAX 16384 // 10.24s in 625us

Sorry I just realized you are using 16000 which is under the max. I'll try it out.

So 16000 works for me. Your best bet is to use an RTOS clock to keep track. So:
1. Advertise at a long interval (i.e. 10 seconds)
2. Start 60 second RTOS timer.
3. cancel advertising.
4. when RTOS timer expires, start restart advertising.

The RTOS clock module is documented in the software developer's guide. You can look at the periodic timer in the simpleBLEPeripheral project for an example.

I think you can set advertising timeout to 30 seconds and restart advertising immediately after timeout.
