CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG Out of Stock [UPDATE: Back in Stock!]

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG, CC2650, SMARTRF06EBK, CC2650STK

** Update 11-Jan-16: the CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG is now back in stock **

Unfortunately, the DevPack Debugger (CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG) is currently out of stock. While we are working to replenish inventory, TI recommends using the SmartRF06 Evaluation Board (SmartRF06EBK) for debugging & programming the CC2650 SensorTag (CC2650STK). The SmartRF06 Evaluation Board includes a XDS100v3 JTAG debugger which can be used with an optional 10-pin cable to interface with the SensorTag.

The SmartRF06 Evaluation Board can ordered from the TI eStore or an authorized distributor under the “Order Now” section of this page: http://www.ti.com/tool/smartrf06ebk

(Note that the SmartRF06 Evaluation Board is also included in the CC2650DK. All kits that include the SmartRF06 board ordered from TI as of Dec 2015 are v1.3 and include the 10 pin cable)

The 10-pin cable can also be ordered from 3rd party distributors:

You may also use a supported debugger as listed on the Complete Tools Overview wiki page.

We will update this post with more information as it becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • Here is a picture on how to connect the XDS100 debugger on the SmartRF06EB to the CC2650 SensorTag. Remember to power the SensorTag.

  • Here are also some 3rd party alternatives:

      • Spectrum Digital, Inc., offers an XDS100v3 USB CJTAG/JTAG Emulator here
      • Olimex LTD, manufactures and sells a low-cost XDS100v3 here
      • Your Neighbor Tech, offers an XDS100v3 in china mainland with black plastic shell.here

  • I'm a poor hobbyist. :)
Anyone tried the Neighbor Tech offering?
Anything to watch out for when using non-Ti alternatives?
  • Hi Tony,

We have not tested it, but there is no reason to believe it should not work. TI provides all the required details to build these debuggers, so there are no secrets or pitfalls for 3rd party developers.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • Why can we not back order the $15 CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG (DevPack Debugger) ?
  • Thanks for this fallback option. The link to the 10pin cable does not seem to lead to any specific product and I can't find it with snippets from the link name either. What am I misunderstanding?
  • Hello Dominic,

Thanks for letting us know about the link issue. We'll check into it and update the post.

Edit 12/4: Added the Mouser link for the 10-pin cable.

    Best wishes

  • I purchased the SmartRF06EB and try to use it with CCS 6 to debug my sensortag. But I got an error saying that "An attempt to connect to the XDS110 failed". If I use SmartRF Flash Programmer, then I can see the sensortag and I can flash firmware to it as well. Is the failure on the CCS side due to that the sensortag project is expecting xds110 debugger, but SmartRF06EB is XDS100?

  • Hello Yunfeng,

You need to change your CCS/IAR projects to use the XDS100v3 debugger when using the SmartRF06EBK. Please see the "Development and Debugging" section in the BLE SW Developer's Guide (SWRU393).

    Best wishes
  • Hi Frederik,

this message leaves me confused in two subjects. First I got a product end notice from DigiKey two weeks ago telling that the SmartRF06 board production is ending. Is that correct ?

Second I would like to know where are all details to build the debugger. What I can find on the TI page seems incomplete and old. e.g. I did not manage to find a schematic else then Version 1.0.0. In this schematics the pin 1 of the 10pol debug connector is permanently connected to Vcc (3.3V)

However, I use the version 1.2.0 and with this version pin 1 does not have a permanent connection to Vcc. To use it without the sensorTag I need to run a wire from pin 1 to Vcc. Where can I find the latest schematic to understand how Vcc is routed on the latest version ?

As well I couldn't  manage in reasonable time where to find the firmware for the TM4C1294NCPDTT3R and any idea what is needed to flash the device.

    If you say

    what do I miss ?

    Please help me on that

    Happy new year

  • Hi Ralph,

I was not referring to the DevPack Debug specifically, but this wiki article with instructions on how to build an XDS100 debugger:

You do have a good point though, I will check if we can post the production files and required SW for the DP Debug.

There are no plans to discontinue the SmartRF06EB. We will also soon start selling CC2650 LaunchPads which will have built-in XDS110.

    Cheers,

    Fredrik

  • Why dont we use the debugger present on the msp432 launchpad, according to the datasheet it should be possible, shouldn t it ?

Any compliant/supported XDS110, XDS100v3 or XDS200 debugger can be used to debug the CC26xx. This includes the XDS110 on the MSP432LP and  CC2650LP. Note that the current $9,999 CC2650LP TI eStore price is not an early adopter price; it will come down as soon as the system updates. You can use the CC2650LP as a standalone debugger without having to add a connector.

    Best wishes

  • The MSP432 LP requires soldering to be able to program external targets while the CC2650 LP has a dedicated header for this purpose.
  • euh.... The cost of the 2650lp is 9.999 $ ....

i think not yet set correctly in your erp .......

    please advice.

  • Yes, you are correct, the CC2650LP price should come down to ~ $30 once the system updates internally. I did receive confirmation that the LPs have been received at our distribution centers so they should be available for order next week following the New Year's holidays.
  • Just to conclude i see That we can cut it.

it could be Nice to put it in a 3d printed box (permitting Access to usb and connectors)
    And leds ...
As This useas Just in time jtag probe and after connect to launch pad ).
