Bluetooth Hardware Evaluation Tool v1.0 issue.

Hello,

I'm trying to use Bluetooth Hardware Evaluation tool v1.0 for RF performance testing. I don't have the evaluation board msp430 but I used the follow information to do my setup:

"The other way it can be interfaced is that the PC is directly connected to the HCI interface of the CC256x device without the CPU/MPU present. This can be done using a USB/Serial converter to translate the USB voltage levels from the PC to the Serial voltages of the CC256x device"

This allowed me to send HCI commands through TX and see the response from bluetooth module using HCI tester, so the communication is working well.

The problem is that i tried to use the Bluetooth Hardware Evaluation Tool V1.0 to load Service Pack into bluetooth device but i always get the error: "Com Port Timeout”.

It seems that the Bluetooth Hardware Evaluation Tool didn’t use hardware flow control.

When I checked PC RTS line, signal was always high.

Could you check for this?

Hi,

Follow the bellow steps and see if you can download the SP

Select the port
Select the Service pack you want to download
Select modify SP tab and disable sleep.
Select the Send SP tab and you send the service pack.

Hello, Sundeep.

I already tried above steps. But I can't receive any responses from bluetooth. It seems that there is a problem with Tool. Because when I use other tools ( ex. HCI tester ), I received responses from bluetooth. Can you check flow control configuration in BT Hardware Evaluation Tool ?

Hi,

That is strange.

Flow control is hardware which is mentioned in the link I have provided in my previous post.

I think the CC256x is not booting up. The RTS should go low, if the device is init correctly see http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_Testing_Guide#nSHUTDOWN_and_HCI_RTS

I'm having the same problem. In my CC256x Bluetooth Hardware Evaluation Tool, under the CC256x SP tab, I have "Send SP" and "Modify SP" buttons in the Service Pack pane. I have a Browse, PATH:, and Status: in the Load Service Pack pane.

I have modified the SP, to disable sleep, and saved it to a different bts file.

I select the port, then select the (modified) SP. I click on "Modify SP", and "Sleep Mode", to verify that it is disabled.

If I then click on the "Send SP" button (on the left), nothing appears to happen, and subsequent attempts to control the radio daughter card yield no signal.

If I instead click on the "Send" button (on the right), I get the message "COM port timed out".

Additional info: In Settings, Select Port, I can set to 9600, or 115200, or higher. But on the MSP-EXP430, the display shows a menu where the baud rate is set to 57600, and there doesn't appear to be a way to change it.

Hi,

Are you using any host processes(HP) like MSP430, If so you need to have a transparency code running on your HP

If not make you have taken care of the first three steps from here http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_Testing_Guide

The COM port timed out, Can be because of the below reason.

1. The configuration of the PINS is not correct.
2. Wrong service pack?
3. Sleep mode not being disabled(Mind that while downloading the SP, using the BHET tool you need to disable sleep).
4. Module is defective. where you able to run the demos from the bluetopia release V1.2 and it works?
