CC2650 with external regulator - CC2650EM-4XS_Ext_Reg_2_0

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650, CC2541

I downloaded the files for the TI reference design CC2650EM-4XS_Ext_Reg_2_0 but the design files don't include a .bxl file. This is needed to convert to our schematic capture tool (Eagle) using the TI suggested ultra librarian. Please provide the .bxl file or provide further instructions to allow conversion to Eagle for the reference design shown above.

Thank you,

Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

We are in the process of creating bxl files for the CC26xx. These will appear on the CC26xx product pages. In the mean time, the only advice I can give you is to create your own symbol / footprint based on the reference designs and the recommended footprints in the datasheet. The Eagle symbol creator tool is quite easy to use compared with other CAD tools, so it should not be a big job.

    Cheers,

  • Hi Fredrik,

Thanks for the quick answer. You guys are great. Although the tools for Eagle are pretty simple, I think I'd prefer to wait for your reference design. The antenna stuff can be a bit tricky.

If you're taking suggestions, I'd love a CC2650 with a range extender AND a Buck Regulator.

    Thanks again,

    Patrick
  • Hi Patrick,

    Thanks!

I have to disappoint you on the bxl though. It will not be for a complete design, only for the QFN package alone. We do have a CC2541 design in Eagle which you can use as a starting point here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC2541_Breakout_Board

A reference design with range extender is coming later this year. This can be combined with a buck regulator, but you must ensure that the output of the regulator can supply sufficient current for the PA. For this setup you can combine the "External Regulator" reference design with the range extender design.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
