RF430CL330HTB RF interface not working.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR5739, RF430CL330H

Hi all,

I got two RF430CL330HTB Target Boards, unpacked the first one over an ESD table, connected to the MSP430FR5739 Experimenter Board running the RF430CL330H_Example code and my Nexus 4 is unable to detect anything. Tried the other board with the same procedure and it works.

I can successfully read and write the undetectable board through I2C interface but the board just simply don't gets an RF wakeup. On the other hand, the other board is working fine with similar register configurations.

What could be the cause of this problem? I highly appreciate possible assistance and insight over the issue.

Thanks and Regards,

Hammad

  • Hammad,

It sounds like there could be damage to the chip or something else on the board.  It could be a bad connection to the antenna or some other board problem with the antenna since register writes/reads work, just no RF.  I can ship you another board today if you can ship this board to me for inspection.  I will send you an e2e friend request with details.

  • Hi Eddie

I am having a similar problem, this is my first experience with TI.

Maybe you can pick up where I have gone wrong or if there is a hardware fault

I have download the example code into the RF430CL330HTB and I can step through the program - No problems here. I am using a samsung S3 with NFC enabled to read the "Hello World" NDEF message but the board doesnt wake up. No interrupt fires.

I have stepped through the functions for I2C and it doesnt get stuck there so it seems to acknowledge that the cl330h board is there and can communicate with it.

I measured the voltage on the antennas and they stay unchanged at 0.3v

I have spent the last to weeks trying to find out what I have been doing wrong.

Please can you suggest something for me to try.

    Thanks

    Brendan

  • To better understand your situation I would like to ask a few questions.

Does the handset correctly read the NDEF message?

Do you remove the handset from the vicinity of the CL330H after reading the message?

When you say that you measured the antenna voltages and they stay unchanged at 0.3V, is this the case during handset communication?
