TRF9790 Compatibility with NTAG 203

Hello,

I am working with some NTAG203 tags by nxp. I was wondering how compatible they are with the evm. I am getting successful anti-collision but nothing further than that.

Also does this part support writing to 14443A tags, if so what command can be sent to do this?

attached here is some deep dive training - might be more than you need at this point, but maybe its helpful to know some of what is "under the hood" with these tags.

they do not comply fully with the ISO standard, and you need to deviate with special commands, which are supported in the firmware, but added after the GUI was made, so this is why the ISO14443A tab in the GUI does not allow you to go past that certain point.

Josh,

No worries on the delay, I've made great progress from your help. One question that I still have is why can I only do anticollision with two tags and not more.

I noticed when I try to put three tags into the field during continuous polling in 14443 mode, the system freezes and I must hit the reset button in order to recover. Any thoughts on this?

its firmware based issue - can you report back which firmware version you have in your EVM?

I have on evm on Firmware Revision 03_08_2013 and another on Revision 3 11 Nov 2013. Both seemed to get stuck in anticollision

Hey Shayla,

If I remember correctly, this is a Stack Overflow problem. Basically, the way the 14443A Anticollision is written in that code, it's using a recursive function called "14443A_Loop();" This function calls it self to step through all the selection steps, etc.

What happens with to many tags, is that it quickly gets further and further deeper in this recursive function, until your memory stack is completely overrun and you overwrite something important.

It should be possible to implement this functionality in another way, or try to allocate a bigger stack. How many Type A tags would you like to preform anti-collision on at once?

ISO15693 is a completely different tag technology, but the anti-collision is much better designed for handing large amounts of tags. If this is important to your application, maybe you can consider them.

I am currently in the process of evaluating ISO 15693 VS ISO 14443. I'd most likely only need to perform anti collision on up to 5 tags
