<Urgent> Compatibility Concern of Changing 32 MM GLASS TRANSPONDER

Hi TI Folks,

My customer is assessing the risk of the impact of PCN no: 20140306000, Titled : Product Withdrawal of RFID Transponders

The current system is using the following TI's Parts:

GLASS TRANSPONDER 32MM

RI-TRP-WR2B-30

CONTROL MODULE, SERIES 2000, RS422/485 INTERFACE

RI-CTL-MB6B-30

HIGH PERFORMANCE RADIO FREQUENCY MODULE, SERIES 2000

RI-RFM-007B-30

Per advice by PCN,

RI-TRP-WR2B-30 will be recommended to be replaced by TRPGA30ATGB

The replacement comment is  : Same functionality and PIN-OUT as the compared device but is NOT an exact equivalent.

We urgently need TI's help to advise on the impact of replacing RI-TRP-WR2B-30 by TRPGA30ATGB in the above mentioned system in term of software and hardware compatibility. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Weiren

  • Dear Weiren,

here is the latest information and update:

    • TRPGA30ATGB once programmed will work in existing installations.
    • In case the tag needs to be programmed, existing readers don’t support write functionality.
    • In 99% of applications, the tag will only be programmed once, therefore the only thing to change is the reader at the programming/initialization stage.
    • Here is a compatible reader supporting programming of the new tag: http://www.ti.com/product/ri-stu-mrd2
    • Here the USB type EVM reader: http://www.ti.com/tool/mrd2evm
    • Schedule for release of the TRPGA30ATGB is expected to take place in Q1/Q2 2016

Good news is that we have built another batch of the old part RI-TRP-WR2B-30 to close any supply gaps, parts are available from stock!

    Best regards,

     KSA
