Difference between smart configuration and first time configuration

I want to know what is the difference between smart configuration and first time configuration.

  • Hi,

The first time configuration is the older way of connecting the CC3000 to an AP from the external configuration device. This is replaced by smartConfig, which is user friendly and secured compared to the first time config.

In first time config, on the configuration device, one has to add the AP SSID+security key as part of the SSID, separated by tokens. Once you start the process, a probe request be sent. This would transfer the details to the CC3000. Please refer to the below link for more details: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC3000_First_Time_Configuration

SmartConfig is an improved process of doing the above. You would have to run the smartConfig application on the configuration device. The configuration details provided in this application would be received by the CC3000. Please refer to the below link for more details: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC3000_Smart_Config

    Thanks & Regards,
    Raghavendra
