Firmware 1.14 release notes?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR5739, CC3200, CC3100

Hello, sorry if this has already been covered but I noticed there's a new 1.14 firmware version out.  However the release notes for it are blank: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC3000_Release_Notes#Version_1.14:

Can anyone give a quick summary of what's new in this firmware?  Thanks!

  • I am also interested about this information...

  • It looks like the page was updated some time after I posted the question, now I can see the full list of changes:

Table 1: CC3000 device - fixed bugs (firmware)

    RoleDescription
Network Removing the mDNS from the network stack
Network Limiting the Auto ARP updating only to TCP packets. Fixing the gethostbyname errors related to ARP.
Network Improving UDP Tx stability. Also exposing the ARP events to user application for better control.
MAC Fixing the issue of not scanning the APs with SSIDs belonging to different BSSID
Network Updating the supplicant scan state for the state WPA_SCANNING
    MAC Removing WEP Shared feature

Table 2: Host driver - fixed bugs

    RoleDescription
Network Adding the error codes in a new file ‘error_codes.h’ in the Host Driver
Network Moving the mDNS functionality to host driver under the compilation flag ‘MDNS_ADVERTISE_HOST
Network In socket(), changing return type from INT16 to INT32
Network Changing the API documentation of setsockopt() and getsockopt()
Network Adding new ASYNC events ‘HCI_EVNT_ASYNC_ARP_DONE’ and ‘HCI_EVNT_ASYNC_ARP_WAITING’, to control the TCP/UDP traffic from host.
Network Adding the WLAN status codes in ‘wlan.h’ inside the Host Driver

Looks like a nice release with some much needed fixes!

One question I have though, the release notes mention a lot of little changes to the host driver code like adding WLAN status codes, error codes in a new error_codes.h, new async events to be processed, etc.  However the release notes page right now says:

"The release package 1.14 will contain only the Service Pack update. This Service Pack should be used with the Host Driver that is part of the release package 1.12."

Is that right, should the 1.14 firmware really be used with the old 1.12 host driver code?  Seems like a mistake since there are changes to the host driver code in 1.14.  Just wanted to check for sure, folks should use the 1.14 host driver with the 1.14 firmware right?

  • Anthony,

I completely agree, from the release notes there has got to be changes to the host driver and thus changes to the API which is still showing 1.12.  We will need the new API along with the new version 1.14 firmware.  TI can we please get an update on this issue.  Some of us have been waiting for over a year for this thing to work right and would just like to finish this nightmare already.

Why can't you guys just realize what you need and put it all out at the same time, or if you can't, then update the API and host code first as we can write code from that.  We cannot write code that has changes that are not documented.  So could you please give us the correct documentation soon?

I was hoping you guys were getting your act together but after 4 months of being promised this update along with a list of what is outstanding (which is still not posted) I give up and will be moving to ACKME Networks wifi modules on my next product.

I understand your intentions are good TI but until you actually do something correctly without it being a cluster**** I can have no faith that the new chips and modules will have any different result.  You claim quick development time but you are the worst in the industry at actually delivering on anything you say or promise.

    Thanks,

    Chad

  • Hi

We released both 1.14 patch programmer to burn the EEPROM and 1.14 SDK containing the host driver and sample application for MSP430FR5739

I couldn't find the above comment in the release note document. I acknowledge that the release process took few days and not all pages updated at the same moment we will work to improve this process in the future.

If the release is still not clear, please post again with the link to the unclear material.

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Thanks for posting back, you are right as the firmware is all there. I was referring to the documentation as in the API which is still showing as version 1.12.  I have said this many times before, we are not all working from your host driver as some of us have written our own code from the API and host driver from previous generations.  Now it is much easier for me to update my own code using the API, not hunting through the new host driver for changes.  So can we get the new API posted today?

I now see that the release notes are updated to say you must update both but that changed today or late yesterday.  I am just suggesting to update the documentation first or just get it all done at the same time.  You gave use the eeprom fw on Friday, the host driver on Monday( I believe) and the release notes were updated Monday and Today, but still no updated API.  It just seems like the team could get it done a little sooner once they have started.  Take the Wiki down for a few hours if you must to get it done smoothly in the future and please apply these comments to all TI Wiki updates if you find it helpful.

BTW is there a  CC3100/CC3200 forum like this forum for CC3000?

    Thanks,

    Chad

  • Hi Chad,

  • Hi Raghavendra,

That is exactly what I was looking for.

    Thanks,
