Wanting to know if we can run as an AP and a STA simultaneously. Since it (looks like) we can only support one 'incoming' connection to an AP, I am optimistic.

p2p won't work, sadly.

Hi Dave,

I'll separate your post to several topics:

We don't support AP and STA roles simultaneously. However, you can switch between modes quite easily using our SW API
In the current release, while in AP mode, we support only one STA connection; we will support more in the near future
P2P works, both as a P2P STA and P2P GO.
Can you please describe with a bit more details what did you try that didn't work for you?
Please note, that due to the statistical nature of the P2P connection protocol, sometimes, more than one connection attempt is required

Alon,

I have been pursuing using the CC3100 chip in a new product and I have just now become aware that only one STA connection is permitted in AP mode. This will not work for me as my application requires up to 5 simultaneous connections.

You mention that more connections will be supported in the near future. Can you elaborate on the timeframe for this and the number of connections that may be allowed? I need to decide if I should abandon the CC3100 and pursue another chip or if it will be upgraded soon enough to allow me to use it.

Unfortunately, we don't have any firm plans to support 5 simultaneous connections.

I would also add that we will increase the number of stations supported in AP mode in the near future but don't have a specific timelien to share at this time.

Hi,

No progress in this topic. No multiple AP clients, no simultaneous STA + AP. I expect that this features will be never implemented CC3100 and CC3200. Network processor haven't sufficient resources for this features.

How other, cheaper producers of WiFi transceivers can manage to offer up to 8 clients in their offerings, yet a company as large as TI cannot, is beyond me.

When TI's own engineers state that it is planned (albeit for some day), I naturally interpret that as a confirmation that it is possible. Why would TI engineers make such claims, if their own NWP doesn't have the resources for it?

gentlemen - have you read the CC3200 data sheet, first page? i realize this is an older post you have revived, but we do have enough serious posts to deal with. also, we do have WL187x devices if you need more capability

This are good question. Am not able answer it.

I haven't available official statement in this case, but according "answers" from TI employees at E2E forum and other confidential information, I am almost 100% sure. Unfortunately I can't share more information.
