CC3200 launchpad operating temperature?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

Hi,

I tested CW stability test with CC3200 launchpad rev. 3.2
I run CW mode with radiotool and measure center frequency with spectrum analyzer.
In room temperature it's center frequency is OK.
But in +80 celsius degree it's center frequency is out of range.
I read cc3200 operating temperature is -40 ~ 85 celsius degree.
But why CW stability test failed in +80 celsius degree?
I heard that cc3200 operating temperature -40~85 celsius degree is available when using TCXO. right?

Thanks,
Park

  • Hi,

I have not done your test at CC3200. But, there is a mention at CC3200 datasheet of

"Tambient up to 85C, assuming 20% active mode and 80% sleep mode".

"Operating temperature is limited by crystal frequency variation"

Maybe those could be contributing factors at your "frequency out of range" failure.

  • The operating range of -40C to 85C is defined for the IC. The frequency spec is defined from the Xtal used on the board and its load capacitance. The board is rated to work from -20C to 70C only although we have tested it to work at extreme temp ends.

Also note that for the 2.4GHz band the frequency spec is 25ppm. Do you see the frequency being out of this range at 80C?

  • Hello Park,

The center frequency on the launchpad is expected to be within spec at 80C using the XTAL we have on our reference design. It would help if you could share more details like what is the error in center frequency you measured ? what is the procedure you followed (did you boot the device at room temp and increase the temperature to 80C without stopping the transmission)?
