CC3100MOD -UART orSPI

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100MOD, CC3100, UNIFLASH

Hi,

I am designing a board with CC3100MOD .

I understood that I can choose between UART and SPI.I mean, the communication is UART or SPI, I don't need both of them?

If that True, can you explain to me what is mean?

Is the serial flash on the CC3100MOD not preformattet you mean?

It was my mistake, I missed that you are using the module here. All the module are pre formatted and service is updated.

But you should still route the UART pins on your boards to connect with uniflash for formatting and updating the service pack and user files.

Thanks ,

  • Hi Victoria,

You are correct, you can use either UART or SPI interface your MCU with CC3100.

Let me rephrase my point here:

On a custom board serial flash should be formatted at-least once using uniflash before it can be used with CC3100.This is required for device to create its file system on serial flash. On CC3100 modules the serial flash is already included and comes pre-formatted with updated service pack. Hence its not needed to format it before it can be used.

However on board the UART lines should be accessible so that the service pack or any user files like html pages or certificate can be flashed using uniflash.
