Dear CC3100 users,

New CC3100 SDK add on is released - Host Programming. The new add on can be downloaded from http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC31xx_SDK_Sample_Applications#CC3100_Add-on_examples_for_the_TI_MCU_Platforms

This add on describes the setup, procedure and usage of the Host Programming add-on that needs to be followed in order to program (and optionally format) the on-board assembled serial flash from the host MCU.

Hi Andrey,

Host Programming is applied from host driver APIs and as such programmed via the SPI interface.

By SPI interface, I mean the interface from your host MCU to CC3100 chipset.

Please let me know if I misunderstood your question.

Yes, I meant programming CC3100 application into serial flash, connected to CC3100 via SPI interface from our MCU.

In your document I'we seen just example with UART interface.

Andrey,

It is applied via SPI interface between MCU and CC3100.

UART interface is only used if you also like to format the serial flash.

Consider we have new board with CC3100 and new empty serial flash connected to it and only SPI interface between our MCU and CC3100. Would I be able to load application onto CC3100 serial flash from our MCU?

No, format is possible via UART only.

However, I believe you refer to production line where mass production is involved, right?

If so, the recommended approach is Gang Programming where a complete image is programmed to the serial flash (using an industrial flash programmer via the flash SPI interface. In most cases when the serial flash is not soldered to the device). Format along with other commands are then extracted upon device first reset. You can read all about it in Uniflash user guide.
