Hi,

Wi-Fi applications based on the TI SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3100 and CC3200 solutions use a serial flash memory for non-volatile storage. It was previously suggested that TI’s CC3100/CC3200 devices could be used with the Micron M25PX80 8 Mbit serial flash. TI has recently been informed by Micron that the M25PX80 8 Mbit serial flash will soon transition to an end of life status. In addition, based on further recent stress testing in TI labs, we have found that pending accesses to the serial flash may not complete correctly in all situations when the power supply is turned off. This can result in possible data corruption issues when using this particular serial flash.

Recommended actions to achieve optimal performance
Systems using the SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3200 or CC3100 solutions with Micron M25PX80 8 Mbit serial flash should transition as soon as possible to the footprint compatible Winbond W25Q80BL 8 Mbit serial flash or the Macronix MX25V8006E 8 Mbit serial flash.

Does the CC3200 Launchxl, CC3200ModlaunchXL and the CC3200MOD all use the M25PX80? Is there a way using the simplelink serial flash commands to read the identification from the M25PX80 chip?

Hi,CC3200MOD and CC3100MOD devices do not use M25PX80.
There is no file system API that returns the identification of th serial flash

Hi,
CC3200MOD and the EVM (and CC3100 as well) are using the Winbond part - W25Q80BL

Can't find W25Q80BL or Macronix MX25V8006E from my supplier. I've found Winbond W25Q80DVZPIG with same package profile, seems change only SPI max. speed and power supply. Can you confirm I can use this part?

The Adesto AT25DF081A - 8Mbit is another option, however more cheaper and easily to find in suppliers.
