Trouble connecting JTAG to a custom board

Hi all -- I am having trouble connecting the XDS200 to a custom board for the cc2650. The connections are exactly the same as they are in on the SmartRF06 Board, which I have used succesfully with both the XDS100 on-board debugger and removing the XDS100 bypass header and using the ARM 20 pin header with an adapter for the XDS200. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

The error I keep getting is:

Error 242 A router subpath could not be accessed

The board configuration file is probably incorrect.

How do I edit the board configuration file for JTAG? Doesn't seem to make sense, since the port is the same on the custom board as it is on the SmartRF06 board.

Error 242 is usually described at the section 5.24 of the wiki page below:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Debugging_JTAG_Connectivity_Problems

There are some referenced discussions there with suggestions to track down this issue.

Hi Rafael,

I have read all those posts, that's why I am asking, how do I create a new configuration file? The first post referenced was because he misaligned the JTAG pins which seems to specific to put in a help manual...

Anyways: How do I create a new config file using the CC2650 with a custom board in IAR?

Hello Jennifer,
I have never used XDS200 myself, but have you changed the debugger in IAR project options to XDS200?
Options -> Debugger:TI XDS -> select XDS200

yes I changed the Debugger version in Project -> Options -> Debugger under TIXDS

Can you find the debugger with SmartRF Flash Programmer 2?
If not, can you try to update the XDS200 firmware:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS200

Hi,

I was able to connect to my CC2640R2 Launchpad with the XDS200, although I get some errors due to an unknown status of the core (these can be skipped by resetting the device).

In addition to the details suggested by Eirik, I would like to check if you selected the cJTAG 2-wire configuration in the TI XDS screen:

That is what it worked for me.

I tried changing that (despite the fact that I am using an ARM 20 pin connector which has four JTAG lines) and I get the same problem. Any more tips?

I also tried this...and nothing...any other situation and I would think it doesn't work...except it does on the smartrf06 board

Yeah it recognizes the debugger. How do I edit the board configuration file? Where is that found?

No unfortunately it doesn't work either way :-( It's almost like the processor doesn't see the jtag requests

When you use Flash Programmer 2, does it recognize XDS200 only or it also recognize CC2650?

it only recognizes the xds200 and not the cc2650. Do you know why this is?

I also want to add that I ran the conf utility and got this message:

Error: Failed to open port connection : xds2xxu : 0

Error: test failed

Hello Jennifer,
The board configuration file refers to the configuration used in CCS. It is not relevant for IAR. But you can try to install CCS as well to do some testing with multiple IDE. Here is a small checklist you can use for further debug:

1) Connections:
Double check the connections on your board manually. Don't use trust the connector. Check every pin and the corresponding connection to verify correct connection.

2) Emulator SW:
Did you install the latest XDS Emulation Software Package?
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS_Emulation_Software_Package

3) Different PC:
try using a different computer or for example virtual box.

4) Bricked:
e2e.ti.com/.../452353

From processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS200 :
IMPORTANT! Very old firmware releases such as the ones present in Keystone II EVMs (1.0.0.2) are known to have problems updating. In general they work well in Windows, therefore proceed with the update at your own risk as the JTAG debugger may be bricked and only recoverable by returning the board for repair.
