RF430FRL152H: Maximum range of RF430FRL152H and TRF7970AEVM EVALUATION MODULE

Part Number: RF430FRL152H

I planning to use RF430FRL152H NFC/RFID  temperature sensor tag  with TRF7970AEVM  EVALUATION MODULE, i would like to know the maximum range when using with 4 tags,

secondly will this range will effect if the sensor tags are placed in a metal or junction box??

can the range be increased to more than 2 meters using some extra RF amplifier and bigger antenna?

  • Hello Prashant,

If the RF430FRL152H sensor tags are being field powered by RF, with 4 of them you would be looking at sub 10 cm range. Probably more in the range of 4-6 cm. If they are battery powered, you may be able to push up to 8-10cm range in perfect conditions, depending on the tag antenna size.

Yes, metal would would interfere with this significantly, and if the metal detunes the antennas too much you could completely lose communication.

Increasing the range to 2+ meters would require more than a simple RF amplifier and a bigger antenna. You'd need to purchase high power HF RFID readers from Feig to achieve anything close to that. www.feig-electronics.com/
