MSP430F5308: SLOA160 Contactless NFC BSL using TRF7970A and MSP430F5xxx removed from Website

Part Number: MSP430F5308

There is an old 2011 app note SLOA160 that appears to have been removed from the TI website.

Is this due to not supporting it anymore or is it an oversite?

A customer of mine is looking at it to Reprogram his parts in the field and was concerned that the firmware and app note are missing and can only be downloaded from 3rd party sites...

I read through the app note and it still appears relevant and 'doable'.

Thoughts?

Best Regards, Blake

  • Hello Blake,

There is no support for it anymore.

Furthermore, the method used does not follow NFC standards and is very dated - this is the primary reason it was removed.

In practice what the app note discusses is still certainly possible to do, but if they are starting from scratch the better idea would be to use the concepts discussed in that app note and apply them by using firmware with proper NFC Peer to Peer standards. Do this, they should leverage our NFC P2P app note which includes our latest P2P NFC stack: www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sloa192
  • Thanks Ralph! Makes perfect sense...
