TRF7970A: RSSI Value

Part Number: TRF7970A

Hi Team,

In an application using the TRF7970A, for certain tags there is an RSSI value of 6-7, whereas in other cases there is an RSSI value of 2-3. What is considered "usable or good enough" for an RSSI value for this transceiver?

ISO-15693 is being used here.

Thanks in advance,

Jared

  • Hi Jared,

if you are getting an RSSI at all, that's usually a sign the tag will be able to be communicated with. An RSSI of 2-3 would only concern me a bit if you are trying to read an excessive amount of data in a single transaction. Like say, Read Multiple Block for 25 blocks for 100 bytes. Then you could see the signal maybe dropping before the transfer is finished occasionally. But for any normal ISO15693 application which uses commands like Inventory and Read/Write Single Block, that should be enough.

6-7 would mean you have an exceptionally strong connection and low chance of any communication errors.
