TRF7960: VDDIO Externally Supplied

Part Number: TRF7960

Hi,

If VDDIO is supplied externally (not from VDD_X) does vdd_x still need decoupling capacitors?

Are there any sequencing concerns?  ie Vin must come up before VDDIO?

  • Hello Jacob,

Yes, VDD_X absolutely must have the decoupling capacitors still. It is an internal regulator that handles many key functions and without the decoupling capacitors the device will not function correctly.

We haven't had any sequencing concerns that I am aware of, but I don't believe we ever really tested a scenario where VDDIO is sourced before VIN. Given that VDD_IO is not a regulator and just a reference for the high/low logic level of device pins, my suspicion is that should not matter, but again I don't believe that has been thoroughly tested so the customer will need to do due diligence on their end.
