LAUNCHXL-CC2650: What is the need of using Ferrite Bead in the launchpad

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650

Hi Ti Team,

Going through the CC2650 Launchpad schematic(swrr147a) Ferrite Bead FL1 is used on the CC2650_VDD line.

What is the need of using the ferrite bead? How was ferrite bead selection done in designing of Launchpad? Which noise do we want to remove?

Since the ferrite Bead used is of Murata part BLM18HE152SN1 and the impedance it offers is 1.5K@100Mhz.

  • Hi Nevendu,

The ferrite bead is in there for best practice design purposes mostly. Whether it is really required or not would depend on your application. If you are making a battery operated system with no (or maybe few) other active parts it can most likely be omitted. If you however are making a system with other digital or analog circuitry, or switching regulators I would keep it.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • Thanks Federik, I got your point.
But I want to Know How Ferrite bead was selected in this case? In this case which frequencey range you have targeted?
