CC1121: RF FSK Signal Generator with External Modulation Input

Hello,

Has anyone suggestions for a moderately priced RF FSK Signal Generator with an external modulation input?

I need to simulate a very low cost, non-TI FSK transmitter in order to better understand the reaction of a CC1121 in receive mode.

The input to the generator is from a PIC microcontroller with a 1% internal oscillator.

It produces a Serial bit stream which has various "hiccups", jitter, drift, offset problems which need to be analyzed.

Minimum Requirements:

1GHZ Output

2-FSK @20KHz

4800BPS TTL Input

I don't have any tip on which generator to buy (I would check the web pages for the main manufactures and see what they provide)

But: Could you explain in more detail what you need to figure out? From your description I assume that you are trying to receive a signal generator by a transmitter controlled by a PIC controller with low clock accuracy?

It is possible to buy second hand spectrum analyzers. Maybe you can then find one which fits your needs and budget.

All,

I am now using this capability built-into the TrxEB.

However, instead of a "Function Generator" I am using a PIC Development System to produce a variety of test packets with different "hiccupps", jitter and offsets.

This allow me to simulate the behavior of my DUT and evaluate these in a controlled way.

I will be using a precision Xtal oscillator on the uC and will be measuring the individual bit widths using a logic analyzer.

To use this setup as a RF Signal Generator, I will be placing the kit in a RF Test Chamber and, using Pads, attenuate RF Out down to -120dBm.

(The above level I will measure with my Spectrum Analyzer.)

Apparently, RIgol makes a RF Generator which can take an external modulation input for about $2,000 which is quite reasonable.

However, considering I have already have built all of the above in my lab, I am heading in that direction for now.
