CC1120: ISM band radio for Japan

CC1120 datasheet has this regulatory compliance info on its first page 

 – Japan: ARIB RCR STD-T30, ARIB STD-T67, ARIB STD-T108

 I am currently using CC1120+CC190 for 902-928 MHz range in US and now need to update my design for Japan (respin or BOM update).

I need to find out which ISM band frequency range (sub GHz) in Japan has the least regulatory restrictions to be able to transmit more power, two way communication, and continuous data (1 packet every 10ms with 10ms packet length). 

Or in other words an ISM band in Japan which has kind of similar restrictions to US 902-928 MHz range.

Here is my understanding from potential sub GHz ISM bands available in Japan

Three different frequency bands (sub GHz based) according to their regulatory information ARIB RCR STD-T30 (??? MHz), ARIB STD-T67 (426-430 MHz, 449 MHz, 469 MHz), ARIB STD-T108 (950MHz) but need to know which one is the best and more feasible?

  • If you want to reuse as much as possible of your previous design you should go for T-108. Note that we have only looked at the sub bands where max allowed output power is 13 dBm (www.ti.com/.../swra457.pdf )

    If I go even with a new design based on CC11xx are the limitations on ARIB RCR STD-T30, ARIB STD-T67 tighter or looser compared to ARIB STD-T108?

    Is there any similar document from TI (or etc) which has this type of Very helpful information about frequency bands subject to -T30 and -T67 in Japan?

  • The main reason I suggested T-108 is that for this band you can still use CC1190, for T-30/ T-67 you would need a different FEM and would need to do your hardware from scratch.

    I have not compared the standards but I believe some of them are targeting narrowband and some don't. Hence you have to consider your datarate requirements to see if it's possible to send the amount of data you need.

    I wasn't able to find any good data on the web which has more details about Japanese ISM bands.

  • ARIB T-30 and T-67 are both narrowband standards with channel spacing of 12.5 or 25 kHz. The data rate will be limited to approx 5 kbps. Operating frequency is 42x MHz. The adjacent channel selectivity requirement is 30 dB and spurious response requirement is 40 dB. This means that the phase noise needs to be low and you need to look at CC1120/25. CC131x does not meet ARIB T-30 and T-67 requirements.
