CC1310: 433MHz Integrated Balun recommendation

Hi Experts,

Our medical customer wants to use our CC1310 in their product. For their product need to be very small size, so they want use integrated Balun(433MHz). However they find their is only one customized made by Walsin for CC1310, its part number is RFBLN2520090YC3T10. But they prefer more types of Balun, because they worry the supply problem of the only part(their product life cycle is very long, they worry the customized part is not available after a certain time). I think there may be other customer has the same question. So, according to your rich experience in CC1310 circuit design, could you please help check if there is any more 433Mhz integrated Balun that could be used for CC1310?

Hi Will,

The 433-510 MHz balun from Walsin is the only balun at the moment available for CC1310 at this frequency.

Hi Will,

We work closely with Murata and Johanson as well for IPCs for our chips. There will be some new dual-band IPCs soon for the CC13xx family.

Hi Richard,

Do you know if there will be a dual-band IPC for 433 and 868/915 ? Or is it possible to use some switches right after the RF pins and select the correct balun/IPC for either 433 or 868/915 ?

Hi HC,

There are no current plans to make one dual band balun for 433 MHz and 868/915 MHz.

For CC131x there is an IPC for 868/915 MHz and a seperate balun for 433-510 MHz. This would then require a DPDT switch directly after the chip before the IPCs. Similiar to CC1350 LP ref design.

Alternatively, use a 868/915 MHz IPC and use a switch to connect a filter to attenuate the 2nd harmonic of 433 MHz (433 MHz operation) or pass-through (868/915 MHz operation). The balun section in the IPC is optimized for 868/915 MHz but the losses at 433 MHz will be in the region of a couple of dBs.

If you just need Tx operation at one frequency, then the CC1352P chip could be an option as well.

We have just approved the CC1352 IPC from Murata. We are in the process of writing an application note. Attached the equivalent schematic and footprint of the IPC. We have an EM reference design as well if you need further information.
