CC1110-CC1111: Beginner in need of advice

Part Number: CC1110-CC1111

I'm a complete beginner to any chip flashing or RF, although I have some experience with more simple things (working on a breadboard, etc) and a lot of computer / network engineering. I'm working on a project to send codes between two devices using RF (sort of like a walkie-talkie except it will be small 32-bit packets instead of voice).

I ordered a few CC1111-F32 ICs because they seemed perfect for what i want them to do, but I'm not sure what to do with them once they arrive. Is there a socket that I plug them into that connects via USB? Do I have to buy the whole $650 development kit? Did I skip a step by ordering just the ICs? Is there a way to program these and mess with them in circuits on a breadboard, or are these only final-product chips?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit over my head with this stuff. If anyone has a simple tutorial to get started, I'd greatly appreciate it!
