CC3120: Migrating from a cc3100 design

Part Number: CC3120
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100, , CC3200

Hi Experts,

We have already ported the cc3100 Simplelink library to work on a couple of projects and are very familiar with it.

How different is the cc3120 from the cc3100?

Is it pin compatible?

Does it uses similar APIs?

Do you still recommend the cc3100 for new designs?

Thanks

  • Hi Sergio,

For the hardware, please see the CC3120 design checklist (at the bottom of the page) which contains a tab for migration: www.ti.com/.../technicaldocuments

You will also have to consider the differences in user.h to accommodate the newer host driver.

CC3100 and CC3200 are still recommended for new designs. The Gen 2 devices are suggested for increased security and lower power applications.

    Best regards,
    Sarah
