CC3120: Hardware acceleration of security ciphers?

Part Number: CC3120
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SHA-256,

On the CC3120, is the cipher suite (e.g., AEC-128 and SHA-256 encryption, authentication, key exchange, etc.) algorithms hardware or software based?  Customer concern here is the possibility of updating/correcting the algos if ever needed.

Regards,

David

  • Hi David,

The Crypto engines are based on HW accelerators with some SW control (the SW is mainly in ROM but some patches can be applied).
Is there any specific concern (in regards to expected update for any specific algorithm) or this is a general concern?

This is a general concern from the customer.  He states that cipher algorithms in the standards are always changing, and he is concerned about not being able to update them.  Well, it is how it is.  I will close this thread.
