Linux/WL1807MOD: Set transmit power on access-point

Part Number: WL1807MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1837MOD

Tool/software: Linux

Hi,

Is there a way to set the transmit power to some specific value on the access-point?

I tried “iw phy phy0 set txpower fixed …” but it doesn’t work. According to the thread below this command isn't supported on WL1837MOD. Is this also the case for WL1807MOD?

e2e.ti.com/.../1665048

This thread also says that power must be set via the .ini file, so I looked at the“WL18xx.INI File” application report. This doc explains many of the parameters related to power. Section 1.3 seems to explain how to transmit at 10 dBm, but it’s vague and doesn’t give specific values for the parameters that would set the tx power to 10 dBm. I couldn’t figure out a general method of how to configure these power parameters to transmit at some desired power. Is there a way to do this?

  • wl18xx-conf.bin values are set using wlconf:

Section 7 in this document also point to a detailed explanation of the confgurable values:

  • Hi Eyal,

I looked through these documents before posting my original question but I didn't find the answers to my two questions which, in short, are:
    1. Is it possible to set the transmit power on the access point?
    2. If it is possible, how do you do it?

I read through the power sections of the second document which describes several power-related parameters. Each individual parameter is described in tremendous detail, but there's little discussion on how those parameters work together to set a specific value for the transmit power or how I could set those parameters to get a particular transmit power. In fact, it's not even clear if it's possible to set the transmit power to some particular value. This is where I need your help: to interpret these documents.

    Thanks,
