CC3200MODLAUNCHXL: communication two module without wi-fi

Hi everyone,

I am new with cc3200 and other simplelink, IoT stuffs. My project is communication between two cc3200 module and send & receive video or command data. But, I am confused when I examined the datasheet and user guides about cc3200. Is any Wi-fi network in the ambient necessary for this project? more clearly,  can I write a communication network only between these two modules in any environment that has not wi-fi network?
