Linux/WL1835MODCOM8B: WL1835MODCOM8B configuration on Am57 EVM

Part Number: WL1835MODCOM8B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSEVM572X,

Tool/software: Linux

I have EVM of Am57 (TMDSEVM572X). I connected the WL1835MODCOM8B MMC wi-fi module. How can I operate the module and test it?

I have already working with Ti Ubuntu OS successfully. I also have physical network connection. however, using iwconifg command  I can't see any  Wi-Fi board connection.

Should i follow the guide in web site

processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/WL18xx_Platform_Integration_Guide#Appendix_A:_Enabling_Wi-Fi_on_TI_Platforms_with_TI_SDK_4.00_-_patching_and_updating

in order to operate the Wi-Fi board?

Thanks,

Gilad

  • If, you are using TISDK for example : software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html
It should work out of the box.. Simply boot the EVM with COM8 module installed....

What is Ti Ubuntu OS, mentioned in your querry? TI only releases TI-SDKs with open embedded/Yacto,.,

    Thanks
  • Dear Hari,

    Thanks for fast response.

Sorry, my mistake. I am using Ti-sdk allready supply me by Ti,

I connected my Ti wi-fi card ( WL1835MODCOM8B) to the evm board and reboot. I tried ti check whether i have wi-fi using iwconfig command and i got the answer

    wlan0     no wireless extensions.

    lo        no wireless extensions.

    eth0      no wireless extensions.

    eth1      no wireless extensions.

I assume I have to reconfigure something to make the board working. The only mention I saw in this regard was in the  web site

    processors.wiki.ti.com/.../WL18xx_Platform_Integration_Guide

It requires a new compiling of Ti_SDK with a patch.

    I have two questions:

    1) Is there any other way to check whether my Wi-Fi working except the command iwconfig command?

    2) In case my Wi-Fi is not configured, how can i configure it? Is the only way to configure my wi-fi is by recompile my Ti-sdk with the patch "v6-wlcore-add-missing-nvs-file-name-info-for-wilink8.patch"?

    Thanks,
