WL1835MOD: Can the WL1835MOD be used in a mobile unit (ie; tablet)?

Part Number: WL1835MOD

Hi,

Can somebody explain this?

" The device is FCC, IC, ETSI/CE, and TELEC certified for AP and client"

Can the WL1835MOD be used in a mobile unit (ie; tablet)?

thanks,

Tom

  • Tom,
Yes TI WL1835MOD can be used on a mobile unit. It is certified for FCC, IC etc. For certifications on end products using WL18xxMOD, pls refer to processors.wiki.ti.com/.../WL18xxMOD_Regulatory_Product_Certification

  • ??any plans for portable, or what other device do you recommend for portable??

thanks for the info, from the verbiage,

the WL18XXMOD is certified for Mobile but NOT Portable (see below).

How To certify Host End Products

    • An end product incorporating the WL18XXMOD module, does not require additional testing or authorization for the WiFi/BT transceiver as long as:
    1. The conducted power of the end product is equal or less to the original certification
    2. An antenna of the same or similar type and equal or less gain antenna used on the final product
    3. The host device does not change the RF exposure condition from mobile to portable operation.
    4. Any restrictions found in the grants are followed in the OEM’s end product when integrating the TI module.
    • Mobile operation: the device is operated away from user at least 20 cm. Such as access point or router.
    • Portable operation: the device is operated away from user less than 20 cm. Such as tablet PC or phone.
  • Hi Tom,

We are certified for operation > 20CM. If you operate < 20CM you will need to do SAR testing.  So the module can be used for portable devices. For FCC/IC we have  a process that allows you to reuse the data then do the delta testing required. You will need your own FCC/IC ID for this, but allows ruse of the majority of the data for certification. The form is attached.
