CC2538DK: Zigbee Coordinator using the CC2538EM / CC2531 usb Dongle

Hi ,

I have two queries regarding this Kit :

Case 1:

Is thier any way to flash the cc2531 usb dongle with Z stack coordinator firmware without a ccdebugger.

I have Downloaded the IAREmbedded for 8051 and flash programmer for this and it seems it is was not possible with CCdebugger as the flash programmer was unable to detect the device .

Though The Sniffer was fine.

Case 2:

If the above case is not possible then can you please provide me the steps how to setup the hardware and install the Z stack 3.0 on CC2538 EM module.

1. You have to use CC Debugger to program CC2531.
2. You can refer to Z-Stack 3.0 Sample Application User Guide.pdf in Z-Stack 3.0.1 document folder.

Hi Chen,

When I load the Z stack firmware on to CC2538EM the preloaded PAR test firmware will be lost right ?

Hi Chen,

Thanks for swift response. Currently I dont have a CC Debugger with me now. I have a SPI ISP flash programmer. Can I use this to program the CC2531 usb dongle ?

No, you cannot. I have replied you that you have to use CC Debugger.

Hi Chen,

I Have bought the CC Debugger and flashed the CC2531 with ZNP with SBL which is available in Texas Instruments/Z-Stack 3.0.1/Projects/zstack/ZNP/CC253x/dev/ folder . After flashing and reconnecting the usb dongle ,I wanted to use ZTool to send MT commands but the device is not being detected in the Z tool.

Do you set baudrate of Ztool to 115200 and handshake to none?

Hi,

the dongle is recongnized as CDC device without any driver in device manager .I just found that I need install the com port driver for CC2531 after install ZNP . I found this in one of the documents
"If this is the first time the CC2531 USB Dongle has been programmed with the appropriate SBL and plugged into the PC, it will attempt to enumerate as a CDC USB Class Device. The user should point windows to the “usb_cdc_driver_cc2531.inf” file available from the .zip file at this URL: www.ti.com/.../swrc088c.
The CC2531 USB Dongle will then expose a USB to Serial Virtual Com Port interface"

Although I connected to Linux system as well the device doesn't show as ttyACM0 or any.
