Hi,

I am looking for an audio protection ICs for Headphone Left, Right , Mic, SPKRL and SPKRR audio signals to a Product. This audio interface will be used for External device communication.

So i need a protection circuit/IC which protects my audio circuit from external Interference/noise/EMC.

Protection IC should also have protection circuitry like short circuit protection, ESD etc.

Request you to suggest a suitable TI device which will meet my requirement.

What is the operating voltage range and signal speed for the lines you are wanting to protect?

My audio signals output will be up to 5V and Bandwidth up to 10KHz.

Hi Pediah,

For ESD & EMI protection, since it looks like you need protection on 5 pins, I'd recommend using TPD6F202. It is 6 channel 25 kV ESD protection device with an integrated EMI filter with a 108 MHz -3dB cutoff frequency.

For the short circuit protection, it depends on what kind of short circuit scenario you are wanting to protect against. If you are want to protect against an overvoltage short to a line that is <18V, I'd recommend using TMUX1072.

Hello Matt,

1. Since my audio frequency output is 10KHz, But TPD6F202 has 108MHz Bandwidth. Can you suggest a Device/Filter with to protect >10KHz signals?

2. If i use these protection circuit on audio input/output line, will my audio signal get affected?

Hi Pediah,

TPD6F202 can protect any signals <108 MHz, which includes your 10 KHz signal. Any other signals with frequencies higher than 108 MHz will be filtered out, such as EMI. Neither of these devices should affect the normal performance of your audio signal.

The frequencies between 100kHz to 100MHz, Do i need to filter externally?

Yes, if you want filter out those frequencies, additional components would be required.
