Hello,

I have a question regarding the BQ25723 charge controller.

I plan to make it so that it has the option of charging from an adapter or USB-C PD, switching between the two can be done in the software depending on the customer's needs.
Is it possible if I use the PD to power my system from the battery that I use the adapter or the UCB-C PD input as a support to provide enough power?

I plan to use 2 different chips for PD like TPS25750D for input and output as the custommer needs 2 different plugs for input and output in my system.

Is that possible to draw a block diagram? We have many reference designs for multiple input or multiple battery application.

You can find a block diagram attached. in this configuration, only 1 input is working at a time. in the software, i want to make it available to switch between OTG mode in power sink configuration and the forward mode configuration where i can power my system with a normal adapter.
my second question is: in forward mode, i can normally power my system and charge my battery in case my system does not use all the power or the battery provides the missing power when the system needs more power than the adapter can provide. is this possible when i use OTG mode?

Hi, Ali,

Thanks for the block diagram. To your question, in OTG mode, it is possible to let the battery power the system, as the same time to generate OTG voltage for the PD power consumer.

Hi Tiger,

Thank you for the clarification. Since I am working with 2 power inputs (USB Type-C and DC Barrel), I searched for Priority Power MUXing and found several options like TPS25983, TPS25948 and TPS25947. However, I could not find any helpful reference design with a PD except on page 54 in the TPS25947 datasheet.
Could you please provide a circuit or reference design that explains the circuit better.

Hi Christopher,
I am connecting two power inputs to my system and using TPS259470ARPWRTR to create a power MUX. However, one input is with a DC jack and the other is with a USB Type-C with a PD. I saw in the TPS25947 datasheet on page 45 a way to use an ideal diode together with the PD and the TPS259470ARPWRTR so that I can create this power MUXing. Can you please give me more information on how to connect the PD controller to both (ideal diode and TPS259470ARPWRTR), for example a reference design, Pinning or similar. I am using STUSB4500 or the TPS25750D as PD sink controller.

Hi Ali,

I support the USB-C PD Controllers, so can give you some comments from the PD-Controller side. I'll redirect you to the Power Switch team for more help with the TPS259470.

Our USB-C PD controllers support both internal and external power paths. When using an external power path, we require some form of an external switch. (in this case either the TPS25947 or the ideal diode). We have gpios and gate drivers on the PD controllers that control the opening and closing of the external switches. In this case, it seems like you would connect the external power path gpio to the OVLO pin of the TPS25947, or the EN/UVLO of the LM73100.

Hi Ali,

Here in above image TPS25947 is on source path. Power flow is from VIN pin to VOUT pin towards the USB port.

Your PD controller can control pins like EN,OV to enable, disable device. FLT pin is for monitoring Fault.
