TPSM8287A12M: Inquiry about Component Calculator (TPSM8287AComponentCalculator.xlsx)

Part Number: TPSM8287A12M

Tool/software:

Hi.

I am designing "Two TPSM8287A12M in Parallel Operation".
- Maximum expected current consumption: 16A

I have a question about the following items in the Component Calculator.

1. Load Current Step: Please tell me whether I should input 16A or 16A/2 = 8A.

2. Minimum Output Capacitance (Used): For example, if it is 300uF, which of the following two methods is correct?
(1) Primary TPSM8287A12M: 300uF / Secondary TPSM8287A12M: 300uF
(2) Primary TPSM8287A12M: 150uF / Secondary TPSM8287A12M: 150uF

Regards

  • Hi,

Thank you for using the calculator.

The load current step and output capacitance are the total for the combined number of devices.  You don't need to divide by the number of phases.  The number of phases is taken care of by dividing the inductance by the number of phases.

Also, the load current step is not necessarily your maximum load current.  It should be the maximum load step (change) that you expect in your application.

If the spreadsheet gives 300uF for Cout, then this means #2: 150uF per device.  And actually, we recommend to place most of that capacitance at the load, with just ~50uF of it by each IC.

    (2) Primary TPSM8287A12M: 150uF / Secondary TPSM8287A12M: 150uF

Let me know if you have other questions!

    Chris
