High power Audio Amplifier with power output in Kilo Watts

Hi ,

We want to design an audio amplifier for outdoor uses, for Public events and processions. Here existing systems use multiple stacks of 2600 Watt speakers to get the desired audio outputs. We want to design an amplifier for such speakers.

Browsing through, i found TAS5631B to be the one with highest power output of 400W mono. We need a mo application and all speakers will play the same audio.

Question is how can we achieve such high power using class D topology(Which devices can achieve this?), Is there any reference design available. ?

Hi Paul,

All the speakers will be in Mono configuration and all play a single channel of audio. There are 2 x 2600W speakers in one box. One amplifier should be able to drive atleast these i.e ~6000W. If it can drive more then its good. We plan to use these in multiple numbers to get around 15000W.

The impedance is 4 ohms. I am not sure about the connection should be parallel or series. Please suggest the topology and circuit. How can we design power supply for such high power, I have seen a 600W power supply reference design for tas5630 by TI.

Hi Ravi,

With 4R speaker, the max Po is 300W for TAS5630B limited by the max PVDD voltage level. To get 6000W into 4R load, the power supply need to be at least 200V. Please see below link for quick power estimation -

You can use multiple amps to get the Po you need.

Thanks for the reference. Is 300W RMS power output of TAS5630B or Peak power?
