TPS61070: Parallel LI-SOCl2 batteries at input?

Hi team,

Can TPS61070 work in an application where the input to the regulator is two LI-SOCl2 batteries in parallel?

If so, are there any design implementations/precautions that are worth considering in such a configuration?

    Hi Brian,

    Our experts of TPS61070 are currently on CNY Holidays, and they can confirm the applicability later. I am not very familiar with this type of battery, but the voltage range seems fitting in the TPS61070's operation range. However, regarding paralleling two batteries of such type, it may be problematic because this battery is not supposed to be re-charged. If the two batteries are not at the same voltage, the direct paralleling puts the lower voltage one in the charging mode without much current limit, and this can be an issue, I think.

    You can google this on the internet and it says charging may lead to explosion.

    I agree with Youhao. The main risk is whether the batter could be re-charged, and the performance if paralleled. The result I searched in internet(wikipedia) is that the LI-SOCl2 couldn't be re-charged. Please check with the customer or vendor.

    Beside, add a diode could limited the re-charge current with a litter leakage. This solution also bring a cost and efficiency concern.
