http://youtu.be/Kkeyz3raP-M

The board contains 4 special piccolo devices which have a sensorless software
encoder in ROM. The Piccolo devices sense each phase current and
voltage and calculate the flux vector inside the motor in real time. This gives
them the ability to precisely place another flux vector to drive the motor with
incredible efficiency.

Balance and control are implemented using a standard suite of 3 axis
accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnatometers, while communications are
implemented using the CC2560 bluetooth controller. Additional navigation
information can be provided by a CC4000 based GPS module which will allow for
completely autonomous flight.

When completed the InstaSpin Quadcopter will run the Arducopter software which
allows us to leverage a large amount of free open source third party software to
provide additional functionality. Phone or PC based software can be used to
both fly the quadcopter and program the quadcopter for autonomous "drone"
missions.

The question I get most when I show off the quadcopter is "Will this thing
fly?". The answer to that question is yes, but not yet! This is a big project
and the PCBs are less than two weeks old and are still being assembled. That
said, this design is based off another quadcopter with a similar size and shape
that uses the same motor prop combination that I have used. The instaspin
quadcopter weighs in a little heavier, roughly 50 grams, but motor size can
easily be increased and weight decreased for a production version of this board.

You may be curious how much this thing costs. While designing the
board the goal was to keep it as low cost as possible. Final BOM cost in a
production environment would likely be near $50 including motors and a battery.
And while this may be over the $40 limit of this competition, I think the fact
that you can now "Launch" a launchpad more than justifies the extra $10 spent.
Finally, because of the way the motor controllers are implemented on the board,
this boosterpack should be compatible with all LaunchPads.

Well thats ends the introduction to the InstaSpin QuadCopter BoosterPack.
Don't forget to vote for me if you'd like to see this boosterpack turned into a
real kit.

Standard Disclaimer:

This design is a work in progress, it is not perfect and there are probably flaws in it I have yet to find. Should the design be put into production much more additional work will be done to ensure a quality BoosterPack that launches LaunchPads!

Progress is slow, but steady. This past year we proved out most of the hardware and learned a lot in the process. Currently I have the design for a new PCB and frame for the quadcopter nearly complete. More recently I've been working on the software side of things. The firmware is based off the AeroQuad project, and will run on top of Energia. Right now my focus is on getting Energia released for the C2000 LaunchPad. I'm happy to say we will be doing a public beta in December of Energia for C2000.

RE: InstaSpin QuadCopter

Any update on this project?

Thanks as well for the project. I assigned the exact thing (Booster Pack with the DRV8834) to students last week as a PCB layout project for learning how to use Eagle, and then I stumbled on your version a couple days ago. I am having them use through-hole components from bench stock for all but the DRV8834, so we'll have some differences. We had trouble finding the library component for the DRV8834, so I hope to snag it from your schematic. Any suggestions or updates would be appreciated. I left the design goals open so a one-motor stepper controller is the minimum, but I challenged then to come up with something they could stack to control three motors. We'll see what they come up with. Thanks again...

I've seen many comments on the forum regarding the availability (or in this case unavailability) of the application source code running on CC2541 on top of the BLE Stack interfacing to ADS1293 like in this demonstration: http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/video/Portal.tsp?lang=en&entryid=0_ijl2ira7

is there a reason this iOS application and the CC2541 application code was not made public? Is it because of the ECG GATT profile is not finalized? Would it be still OK to peek in to the interface implementation to ADS1293 based on CC2541 SoC?

Many thanks!

RE: ADS1293 wireless ECG Stellaris LaunchPad booster board

Hi Mirshab
When we saw your presentation of CC2541 together with Stellaris LM4F120
on "7534.ADS1293-LaunchPad-Booster-Board-4-8-13.pptx, we were quite
happy and hoped we could get the source code for the LM4F120 as well as
CC2541. We are very interested in LM4F120's interface to ADS1293,
because in our project (now in late prototype stage with SAM4 and
nRF51822) we need to make heavy use of the ARM Single Cycle MAC
Insructions for our hand-coded assembly windows, and filter algos (to
insulate the P-waves in ECG). We saw immediate a possibility to great
improvements using the LM4F120/CC2541 presentation. Getting hold of the
source code for all its implications is essential for our product
strategy, as you certainly understand. So if there is a chance to get
the desired source code, we are prepared to change direction and hold
the fiber laser for a while.
Kindest regards
Bo

RE: ADS1293 wireless ECG Stellaris LaunchPad booster board

Hi Bo,

We received new motors, propellers, and batteries today to help us solve our lift problem. We have moved up to 11.1V 3S batteries, and have new 2900 and 3800 KV motors which should spin a little faster. We will be testing with the smaller two blade props, but if we can't get enough lift from them I also have some new 5030 3 blade props which should give us a little more umph (but will require lengthening the PCB).

Also of note, the motors are a beautiful shade of red and black which mirrors the TI colors.

Awsome! Congratz! :)

Can you please post the control code (using the 28027) for spinning the motors.

I am trying to build a 30A ESC using a 28027(C2000 launchpad) + drv8301 + 6 x N-channel mosfets :)

My motors for my Quadcopter are KV1120 (they need more then 13A max, else the drv8332 would have worked nicely)

http://youtu.be/9X-E9GXSX0c

The Bluetooth Audio Amplifier Boosterpack has many uses and has a wide target
audience. The original project idea was to give tubers a way to make their own
DIY cooler stereo. Currently, a few companies offer prebuilt coolers with
speakers, but none offer kits that are designed for the DIY'er and none offer
bluetooth connectivity. Uses aren't limited to coolers as this board can be
used to provide music anywhere there is 12V. In fact many pedicab drivers have
expressed interest in a board like this.

The board contains two main subsystems: a 4 phase boost converter, and a 300W
Class D amplifier. The multiphase boost converter which is based on a TI
reference design is used to pump up the 12V from a lawnmower or car battery to
24V which is used as the main supply for the amplifier. The amplifier is
implemented using a TAS5613. The TAS5613 is a 300W Total Stereo class D
amplifier. Becuase of the switching nature of this amplifier it is very
efficient and perfectly suited for the battery powered applications this board
is intended for.

The LaunchPad in this design is used for control of the bluetooth audio module.
Because of time contraints, I've implemented this board in a very simply fashion
which does not show off all that the LaunchPad is capable of, but with more time
for development this could certainly be improved. Future improvements would be
using one C2000 LaunchPad to control the boost converter and replacing the Class
D amplifier chip with another C2000 LaunchPad and a discrete power stage to implement
a Class D amplifier. Additionally a TI bluetooth audio solution could be
integrated with this board with some additional resources.

As implemented current BOM cost is right around $60, but the board is over
designed. A production version of this board would easily hit the $40 mark.

Schematic:

Standard Disclaimer:

This design is a work in progress, it is not perfect and there are probably flaws in it I have yet to find. Should the design be put into production much more additional work will be done to ensure a quality BoosterPack that rocks...literally!

Thanks for the response. I've always interested at controlling the motors directly and have a board that has everything in one PCB.

My code was hosted here:

At first the copter was a as big as 20" in diameter. Then it's shrunk down to palm size (3.6" motor to motor)

RE: InstaSpin QuadCopter

Thanh is correct about the motors.
