Hi,

Welcome to this blog dedicated to TI’s new CC430 RF&MCU system-on-chip platform. My name is Erling Simensen, and I am working as a product marketing engineer for sub-1GHz low-power RF devices in Oslo, Norway. I have a background as field applictions engineer for Chipcon supporting low-power RF customers worldwide, and I came to TI with the Chipcon acquisition in January 2006.

On behalf of the TI CC430 team, it was a great pleasure to attend Electronica in Munich this November. With more than 2500 exhibitors showing products to 70k+ visitors, there was something for everyone interested in the field of electronics. The premiere for CC430 was on Tuesday 12th of November when TI’s Gregg Lowe (senior VP of Analog) and Brian Crutcher (VP of Advanced embedded control) went on stage to talk about how CC430 will solve customer’s problems. With a press conference room packed with over 50 editors, would our demo still work? (I guess you can all imagine what it is like working with hardware and software on a very tight schedule, we just had it finalized a few days prior to the event). Fortunately the demo worked as expected – it even lasted the whole week of Electronica, on display at the TI booth for everyone to enjoy. Great to see so much excitement over an RF system-on-chip after months of development!

See pictures below of what the demo looked like and the TI booth at Electronica.

As you can see, we kept it pretty safe & simple for now. Basically the demo provides some of the same functionality as one of those weather stations people typically install at home: The display shows the temperature of the other node.

Eager to start developing? Well, we are working to get a (beta) development kit, samples and datasheet out by the end of March 2009.

We will be writing more about CC430 development, applications and other topics of interest in the coming months, so stay tuned!
