Building on our legacy of innovation, TI today announced we are officially recognized as the first licensee of the next generation ARM® Cortex™-A series processor core (also known as “Eagle”). This announcement underscores our team’s position as an ARM Advanced Lead Partner.

The license was signed in June 2009, giving our engineers unique opportunities that ultimately benefit our customers. Among others, there are two major benefits of this milestone. First, we leveraged our high performance, low energy system-on-chip knowledge to help ARM define its processor core. Second, we gained the invaluable opportunity to begin development around the new ARM processor core early on—enabling TI to bring related products to market quickly.

Today’s news marks yet another milestone resulting from a long, collaborative history between TI and ARM. We first partnered with ARM in 1993. Since then, TI has brought to market numerous landmark products that leverage ARM technology. Flagship examples include our OMAP1510 processor (the first ARM9-based multi-core applications processor), the DaVinci platform (digital video processors based on ARM9), and our OMAP44x processors (dual-core Cortex-A9-based applications processor)…to name a few.

Interesting fact: We’ve shipped approximately 250 million OMAP processors alone that contain ARM core processors.  That number will only continue to increase, reiterating why we appreciate our collaboration with ARM. We look forward to empowering our customers even further with the results of our partnership. In the near term, get ready to soar to new heights with this next core!
