In my years of work with the TI team, I’ve learned that success is not just measured by the chips and technologies incubated inside of TI’s walls. Success, rather, is measured in large part by those chips’ and technologies’ ability to fuel customer success. For that reason, announcements like the one from ARCHOS on Tuesday certainly instill a sense of accomplishment in every TIer’s heart.

ARCHOS unleashed not one, but five new Android-based tablets to the world this week. As the latest in ARCHOS’ popular device family, these tablets introduce a whole new meaning to personalized, affordable, on-the-go entertainment. On the outside, their slick form factors scream “yes, you want me.” On the inside, TI’s chips work behind the scenes to drive out-of-this-world user experiences. Each tablet contains an OMAP36x processor, a WiLink™ connectivity combo solution and TI’s power management. These three TI components work together to enable rich performance and connectivity at mobile-friendly power levels, and show off their scalability in the process.

The chips’ presence in all five tablets reiterates the fact that the era of repurposing silicon to address a variety of market needs is truly upon us. Now more than ever, manufacturers are designing product families that scale to fit unique consumer needs across the world. TI helps them do so by providing applications processors, connectivity chips, power solutions and other technologies that that plug into various mobile designs, from high-end “pocket computers” to more affordable personal gaming companions. Once a flagship device hits the drawing board, opportunities for future spin-offs are endless.

Jeff Chu, one of our friends at ARM, put it well in a post yesterday: “This level of scalability requires first creating a clear strategy, next picking the right technology, and third good old fashion execution.” Jeff believes that the selection of an ARM® Cortex™-A8 processor (yes, TI’s OMAP 3 processor) “fundamentally allowed [ARCHOS] to achieve this level of scalability.” We couldn’t agree more.

TI is thrilled to stand behind yet another device five game-changing mobile devices. Measureable success for the TI team, and a huge win for ARCHOS. Let us know what you think of these new products in the comment section below or on TI’s Twitter feed, @TXInstruments. Have a great weekend!
