As remarkable advancements continue to emerge from the show floor in Barcelona, it’s truly awe-inspiring to see how we – “we” as an industry and “we” as TI – have grown over the past decade.  We’ve grown in many areas, but one is near and dear to my heart: the OMAP™ processor line.  The latest in that family – the OMAP 4 platform – shows the promise of huge advancements coming in the near future, whilethe OMAP generation found in today’s hottest smartphones – the OMAP 3 platform – delivers the beginning of those advancements today.  Let’s take a look at what’s making the OMAP 3 siblings stand out from the crowd:

OMAP36x offering:  Latest addition to OMAP 3 family makes its mark on processing history

  • First 45-nm ARM® Cortex™-A8 processors
  • Migrated to 45-nm with samples-to-production ramp achieved in less than one year
  • Scalable, flexible foundation helps customers to bring products to market in less than 12 months

OMAP 3 processors:  Market “firsts” make the whole family stand out from the crowd

  • Provided the world’s first, highest-performance and fastest Android 2.0 ramp
  • First to showcase Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1 capabilities
  • First to showcase 720p capabilities running on Android 2.0
  • First to provide OpenGL ES 2.0 support for life-like mobile gaming
  • First to provide 720p HD playback and camcorder capabilities
  • Most advanced 12-megapixel imaging solution
  • M-Shield™ technology offering the industry’s leading terminal and content security solution
  • Flexible and fast time-to-market, thanks to the benefits of TI’s discrete architecture approach

We’re pretty thrilled about these achievements, and with the growth the OMAP line has experienced since its introduction in 1999.  Our committed team works hand-in-hand with customers to ramp OMAP 3 processor-based products in as little as three business quarters, and we consider this a direct reflection of the OMAP 3 processors’ unmatched scalability and ease of use.  We look forward to continuing on this successful voyage as our products lead the mobile evolution.  This is surely a sign of things to come!
