These days, eBooks are all the rage. According to Amazon.com, for the first time ever on Christmas Day, customers purchased more Kindle books than physical books. That in and of itself is evidence that these cool little devices are entering the market in a very fast, very positive way.

Seeing great opportunity within this emerging market, TI today launched its new eBook development platform (pictured here) to help manufacturers and developers create fresh, differentiated eBook and eReader devices. Based on its OMAP™ 3 technology, the platform utilize a sleek electrophorectic display and includes TI’s comprehensive platform, which features the new OMAP3621 apps processor, WiLink™ 6.0 WiFi/Bluetooth®/FM “combo” connectivity solution, the new TPS6518x EPD power management IC, and other TI analog solutions, and 3G modem connectivity support.

The technology inside this platform isn’t just what makes it awesome – it’s what the platform means for future devices. TI’s technology will bring pretty amazing things to eReader-loving consumers, like the ability to simultaneously scan the web on a second display while reading a book. It will also enable more than 14,800 page turns on a six-inch E Ink screen using a slim 600mAh battery. This represents a 50 percent improvement over similar solutions on the market today.

With all of these advancements, I can only imagine how fast eReaders are going to fly off the shelves next Christmas. Let us know what you think on the comment section below!
