Other Parts Discussed in Post: MSP-EXP430FR5969, MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Supporting Code Composer Studio on Mac has been one of the most common, if not the most common, request we have had from users on the E2E forums.  It has been a long journey but we now have a beta version of Code Composer Studio supporting MSP430 microcontrollers available for anyone to try.  This release is based off of CCSv6.1.0 which we recently released for Windows and Linux platforms.

Similar to our Linux version of Code Composer Studio there are some limitations on the debug interfaces that you can use.  The MSP430 USB FET works fine, as do newer LaunchPads such as MSP-EXP430F5529LP and MSP-EXP430FR5969.  However older development kits like MSP-EXP430G2, eZ430 and Chronos are not supported.

You can download the beta version here.  (Updated link to beta 3, Dec 2015)

We plan to add support for more device families throughout the year.

Note that when running CCS you will notice that it mentions 30 days remaining on the license at the bottom.  This can be ignored, there is no time limit on the license.

Please post any feedback that you have to the E2E forums.  Supporting Mac is new to us and value any feedback that you may have on how we can improve out support for Mac users.

  • I have tried to install it in yosemite 10.10.5. I have all the security disabled. And it still fails, with no clear message. On the console program I have found this line:

Endpoint has been activated through legacy launch(3) APIs. Please switch to XPC or bootstrap_check_in(): com.apple.auditd

Does someone have a hint on how to solve it?

    Thanks in advance

  • The next beta release is now available here: www.ti.com/.../swlicexportcontrol.tsp

    Details:

    Support for MSP430, MSP432, CC3200, CC2650, Tiva, C2000 and Hercules Launchpad devices

    Support for MSP-FET, XDS100, XDS110, XDS2xx emulators

Includes EnergyTrace for MSP430 and MSP432

    Supports OS X 10.10 and 10.9

    Known issues:

Conditional breakpoints and breakpoints with actions may not work as expected on some emulators.

An error dialog about unreachable sites is reported when checking for new software.   This can be ignored.

Program load and debug performance may not be fully optimized.

Please feel free to give the beta a try and start E2E threads for any issues found.  The goal is to have a production quality release by the end of the year.

Deploying on MacOS has been a long process for us and we appreciate everyone's patience.

    Regards,

    John

  • I downloaded the beta version yesterday (9-6-2015) and it installed without any visible problems on my Mac (OS X Yosemite).  However, the last screen of the installer says to run the script install_drivers.sh in the directory ccsv6/install_scripts.  However, there is no directory install_scripts if ccsv6.

    Please advise.
