Sample Buffer

The Sample Buffer is a data field within the C source code where the samples read from the converter are stored in.
This data field is declared in the application file (main.c).
In this example project the Sample Buffer has the following parameter:

3.5 Code Composer Studio Settings

How To Display Data Samples

This section describes how to graphically watch samples collected from the data converter and, thus, verify the proper work of the converter.

1. Start Code Composer Studio

2. Open the Project

3. Download the $PrjDir\Debug\THS1206-DSK6713-CCS3v1.out file to the DSP (DO NOT recompile)

4. Open two Graph Window (parameters are listed below)

5. Set a probepoint at a 'asm( "nop");' line in main.c

6. Run the Program

7. You should see the collected data samples in the graph window.

Since no compiling took place by now (software is binary the same as during the creation of this example project) the user can check the hardware.
In case the system does not work as expected the problem lies most probably in the hardware.

3.6 Exposed Functions

THS1206_getFinishedBufferParams()

- TTIDCSTATUS: Status of function. Can be TIDC_ERR_NOXFER or TIDC_NO_ERR

3.7 Additional Notes

Data Type of Buffer

The size of the data buffer elements is always 16bit (Type: int). However the converter is capable of outputting the samples in either 2's complement or straight binary format. Use the typdedef 'THS1206_DATATYPE' (declared in dc_conf.h) as the data type in your application file when refering to data samples. Working this way assures that the data type always fits to the setting of the converter output format.

Function dc_readsample()

During each call of the dc_readsample() function the FIFO will be bypassed and reset. This means that in autoscan modes only the first channel will be converted always. The better choice is to select the desired channel first and then call dc_readsample().

Function THS1206_getFinishedBufferParams()

The function THS1206_getFinishedBufferParams() does not belong to the standard driver function. Nevertheless it is exposed to the application layer to obtain information about the just finished data buffer. It is highly recommended to use this function inside the callback function only.

Shift/Mask of Data Samples

Depending of the format (2's or binary) and the data shift the data samples get shifted/masked. The data will be always right aligned in the memory, i.e. the 4 MSB are either zero (binary) or sign extended (2's). For a single sample transfer (dc_readsample()) the shift/mask takes place right away. For a block transfer (dc_readblock()) the shift/mask takes place in the ISR. This is done here to provide the user with valuable data. Normally, signal processing should not be placed in a ISR. Feel free to move it somewhere else in your code.

Change the Converter Settings during Runtime

If a change of the converter settings during runtime is required change at first the register value in the data converter object then send the register value to the converter by using the function dc_control(). By changing the FIFO trigger level variable "uiFifoLvl" in the data converter object must be changed accordingly!
