CC2652P: Is it possible to disable the beacon response or add a delay before it?

Part Number: CC2652P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: Z-STACK

In a large network, if a joining device sends a beacon request, the coordinator and all routers will response with a beacon response, can cause increased overhead in the network at the time a new device tries to join the network. When several devices are trying to join at the same time, it is difficult for the devices to join successfully.

Is there a way to improve this by manually enable/disable the beacon response or by adding a random delay before sending the beacon response?

Best regards,

Shuyang

  • Hi Shuyang,

It is not possible to disable beacon responses in Z-Stack.  This is required for detecting Pan ID conflicts and network rejoins.  Appendix D.9.1.5 of the Zigbee 2017 PRO Specification states that "All coordinators/routers SHALL respond to Beacon Requests with a Beacon."  There is no macro to delay the beacon response.
